Bo Scarbrough, the running back for the Birmingham Stallions, announced his retirement from football on Friday via the Bama Standard Network’s X account.

Scarbrough, Steve Brown, Marvin Constant, Justin Riley, and Stephen M. Smith are among the contributors to a podcast on the Bama Standard Network.

Scarbrough posted messages from his mother and other social media users on his Instagram account on Friday night, congratulating him on his retirement.

The announcement on the Bama Standard Network said, “Our brother and Alabama legend Bo Scarbrough has officially retired from football.” “Wishing Bo luck on a job well done! We’re happy for you! May God grant you even greater blessings for this next phase of your path!

Prior to missing the rest of the season due to a knee injury, Scarbrough participated in the Stallions’ season-opening game in 2023.

On February 28, Stallions coach Skip Holtz responded to a question concerning Scarbrough during Birmingham’s opening UFL training camp by saying, “Bo is still trying to recover a little bit from the knee.” Bo’s knee has had a few operations. He was running around yesterday; he looked good. But for the time being, I’m not sure how far he can push himself on a daily basis, so it’s probably going to be a process.

Prior to playing his senior year of high school at IMG Academy in Florida, Scarbrough received his prep at Northridge in Tuscaloosa.

Throughout his three years at Alabama, Scarbrough was a member of two teams that won the CFP national title. During 267 carries, he gained 1,512 yards and 20 touchdowns in running, and for the Crimson Tide, he grabbed 21 catches for 131 yards.

Scarbrough’s best performance for Alabama occurred on December 31, 2016, during a 24-7 Peach Bowl victory over Washington. Against the Huskies, Scarbrough gained 180 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

The Crimson Tide’s triumph sent them to the 2016 CFP national championship game. On January 9, 2017, Scarbrough ran for 25 and 37 yards for the game’s first two touchdowns, totaling 93 yards on 16 carries. However, Alabama was defeated 35–31 by Clemson.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, Scarbrough was selected in the seventh round and signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He also played for a while with the Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Las Vegas Raiders. Scarbrough rushed for 408 yards and one touchdown on 95 carries in seven NFL regular-season games.
