Anthony Drmic has signed a one-year deal to join the JackJumpers for his 8^th season in the NBL, after playing with the Adelaide 36ers in NBL23. He brings a wealth of experience and reunites with former teammate and close friend Jack McVeigh in Tasmania.

Drmic said “you have got to come in and earn your keep, I want to get over there and get to work. I just want to help the team and help the community, I want to put Tassie on top.

“One thing I’ve tried to hang my hat on my whole career is be one of the guys playing the hardest and when you’re playing against Tassie, you’re playing against 12 guys who are playing as hard as you are, so being able to be a part of that I feel like I’m going to fit in perfectly.

“Me and Jack, we’re really good mates. I’m really looking forward to playing with him again and I think we compliment each other well both on and off the court, so I’m sure it’ll be a bit of a dynamic duo.

Head Coach Scott Roth said “he’s a pesky defender and an irritative guy when you have to play against him. His shooting is obviously something that was very attractive to us, and then just that experience and his age, having been around a little bit he knows what it means to compete nightly, and so he ticks a lot of boxes and really has that grit and grind mentality we’re looking for”.

Fabijan Krslovic re-signed on a two-year deal in March to remain with Tasmania until at least the 24/25 NBL season.

Sean McDonald re-signed with the club in January, securing a two-year deal which see him as a Development Player in the 2023/24 season and full roster player in the 2024/25 season.

Jack McVeigh re-signed with the club during NBL23, securing a two-year deal to see him stay with Tasmania until at least the 24/25 NBL season.

Clint Steindl re-signed on a two-year contract extension during NBL23 to remain with Tasmania until at least the 24/25 NBL season.

Will Magnay re-signed with the club during NBL23, securing a two-year deal to see him stay with Tasmania until at least the 24/25 NBL season.

Jarred Bairstow is contracted for the 2023/24 season, which will be the third season in his initial three year deal.

The JackJumpers have not yet filled the three Import contract positions for the 2023/24 NBL season.

Roth said “we’re very confident with where we’re at with Milton. And we’ve been in contact with all those guys from last year, that’s just the right thing to do, to check in with them, their families. They know our timetable of where we’re at and we’re still a few weeks away from really moving forward on import spots.

“We’ve got two local spots left, and we’re looking for two very different players in those sports and then we’ll move to our DPs, and then late May will start to look at imports to build in around the rest of the roster”.

 

FREE AGENCY MOVEMENTS

Sam McDaniel declined his player option for the 2023/24 season. He has signed a two-year contract with Brisbane Bullets as a Free Agent.  

Matt Kenyon has signed a two-year deal with South East Melbourne Phoenix as an unrestricted Free Agent.

“They’re tremendous players and even better human beings. They’ve been an important part of what we’ve done here” Roth said.

“We offered him a contract and it didn’t work out, that’s fine and we move on.

“It is a bit sentimental with these guys because they were here at the start and they’re high character guys that have made a huge impact here, so we wish them well.

“We feel our program gives guys, who are underdogs and need a second chance, that this is their landing spot and it’s a place to reignite yourself.. so we’re quite proud that these guys are getting better contracts and come out of here as better players and better people, and they are really sought after”.

Isaac White (NBL23 DP) has signed a two-year deal with the Brisbane Bullets as an unrestricted Free Agent.

“Everyone loves the guy to death, there’s no doubt about that. Isaac was a guy who was struggling to stay in the league.. now he’s signed a two year contract so a lot of credit goes to him, he did the work.. our coaching staff and this organisation backed him like he’s never been backed before.

“I feel like [his progression] is a great sign that our organisation is doing the right thing. We’re just not going to get them all over the line here, guys are going to choose different pathways for different reasons and that’s ok, we’re proud of their time with us and wish them all well” Roth said.

Jarrad Weeks along with Development Players Walter Brown and Josh Tomasi remain unrestricted Free Agents.
