Blue Jays set to gauge infielder value at this point, as they are receiving trade interest in the young man.

Report: Jays could make Toronto return July 30 as talks progress with feds | theScore.comAfter bursting onto the scene at the end of 2023, infielder Davis Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays is apparently in high demand on the trade market.

With the Winter Meetings taking place this week in Nashville, Toronto Blue Jays’ infielder Davis Schneider is apparently a hot commodity on the trade market.

Per Scott Mitchell of TSN:

But with (Alek) Manoah generating some interest, another name that’s casually come up is second-half sensation Davis Schneider.

Schneider’s bat is his calling card after he posted a ridiculous 176 wRC+ plus and bashed eight homers in just 35 games as a rookie, but the Jays are looking at upgrading both second base and left field, which could leave him as one of their more attractive trade chips.

It makes sense the Jays would try to at least gauge his value at this point.

So, “casually” doesn’t mean that the Blue Jays are actively shopping Schneider and it doesn’t mean that they are necessarily inclined to trade him, but it is interesting nonetheless.

Frankly, it makes sense that he’s being brought up by other teams as he’s desirable in many ways. First off, he’s just 24 years old. Second off, he hit .276 with those eight home runs in just 116 at-bats, proving he’s more than capable of handling big league pitching.

And third off, he’s under team control through 2029, so he checks the boxes for all teams.

The Blue Jays are one of the finalists currently for Shohei Ohtani and they are also one of the teams reportedly kicking around the idea of trading for Juan Soto, so perhaps teams are sniffing around Schneider assuming the Jays will be more willing to move him if they land one of the biggest prizes of the offseason.
