Following Jordan Clark’s public commitment to the Fighting Irish, former Arizona State safety, Notre Dame has made its first portal pickup of the summer. In 2024, Clark will begin his sixth season as a player at Notre Dame.

Clark, a multi-year starter for the Sun Devils, provides the Notre Dame defence with a wealth of experience. During his tenure in Tempe, he recorded 139 career tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 17 pass breakups, and three interceptions. Clark recorded a career-high 50 tackles and nine pass breakups in 2023 as a senior. In 2022, he had a career-high two interceptions and three tackles for loss.

For Arizona State, Clark mostly played in the slot, and it’s probable that he’ll play in the same spot at Notre Dame. He was a slot defender for the majority of his time with the Sun Devils, though he did occasionally roll to the deeper safety areas while playing that position.

Arizona State standout DB Jordan Clark transfers to Notre DameAfter landing Clark, Notre Dame will visit the portal for the second straight summer in an attempt to sign a nickel or slot defender. Thomas Harper, a former cover guy for Oklahoma State, was recruited by Notre Dame to fill the role in 2023. Harper was a good player on one of the top defences in the country, the Irish unit.

Getting Clark not only helps offset Harper’s departure at the slot but also provides Notre Dame with a seasoned player who has produced at a Power 5 level. Harper is one of many defence team veterans that the Irish are expected to lose in 2024. Despite his reported weight of 185 pounds and 5-10 height, Clark is an intuitive player who moves effectively in space. Additionally, he is a willing hitter in the slot, which is critical for that position.
