HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Middlesbrough may need to focus on the January transfer window to secure their place in the play-offs.
  •  The team is interested in signing Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell, who has limited playing time this season.
  •  Cresswell’s aggression and potential for improvement make him a good fit for Middlesbrough’s defensive needs.

Middlesbrough, who are once again vying for a spot in the Championship’s top six, have battled at times this season under Michael Carrick, who has experienced the full weight of life without Chuba Akpom. Nonetheless, the Riverside Stadium team has at least improved upon their early-season performance, which saw them tumble into possible relegation danger. They are currently only three points outside of the crucial play-offs.

However, Boro may need to focus on the January transfer market as soon as possible if they are to guarantee their chance at Wembley. And for that reason, they could try to sign a certain defender who isn’t getting along at Boro’s competitors for promotion.

Middlesbrough transfer news

Given that Akpom scored an incredible 28 goals in his previous season, Middlesbrough’s challenge of replacing his goals during the summer transfer window was always going to be nearly difficult. Carrick still hasn’t figured out how to manage without his standout striker, which has kept his team from finishing in the top six. However, this season, Boro’s main issue hasn’t been scoring goals. since a result, they may welcome a rival defender in January since their problems have arisen at the opposite end.

Charlie Cresswell seals Millwall move with Leeds United statement hinting at future plansMiddlesbrough is reportedly interested in acquiring Charlie Cresswell, a defender for Leeds United who has started just one Championship game this year, according to The Sunderland Echo. During his outstanding loan stint at Millwall the previous season, the 21-year-old came dangerously close to earning a spot in the playoffs. Even with that Championship experience, Daniel Farke hasn’t given the defender many regular starting opportunities at Elland Road, so he may profit from moving elsewhere.

Although it’s unclear if Boro will move forward to sign Cresswell, Carrick will find that he meets all of the requirements. The Englishman is still young, experienced for his team’s level, and will probably become better with additional playing time.

Cresswell is “aggressive” and needs minutes.

For Cresswell to develop into the player he can be, he needs playing time. He impressed previous boss Gary Rowett at Millwall last season after receiving just that. Rowett stated to the Press of South London.

You can see that in the boy too, knowing his father and the kind of character he has. He has had an excellent upbringing and a strong work ethic. Despite having other excellent alternatives, they were really interested in Millwall because he is an aggressive youngster who loves to fight.

“A player on loan wants to know that they will have an equal opportunity and that the offer is genuine and not simply an attempt to sign them for our team. We must perform to the best of our abilities along the way because in the end, he will represent Leeds rather than us as a player.

Middlesbrough’s goal-conceded record in the Championship this year is 29, which is worse than that of all but two teams above them. Carrick could definitely use Cresswell’s defensive reinforcement.
