As Wolves defeated Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates, Gary O’Neil said that Arsenal was squandering time.

Matheus Cunha gave the visitors a goal back in the 86th minute, although O’Neil thought the six minutes of extra time should have been prolonged. However, Cunha was unable to get a second goal.

“There was a long stoppage in there and they told us we’d go to 98 minutes, but Arsenal took 45 seconds over at least three free-kicks they had,” the Wolves boss stated.

We just believed that referee Peter Bankes could have handled the time more effectively for us and that we could have used the entire allocated amount of time.

Sometimes you don’t expect Arsenal to waste time, but I’m certain that we would have been given yellow cards if we had waited longer to complete some of the throws and restarts at the Emirates.

“No offence to Arsenal; if it had been me, my team would also have been taking their time at that point.”

He gave his players credit for completing their assignment. “The guys ought to learn a lot from the fact that we persevered and gave them a little scare.”
