Philippe Clement told to address this issue before thinking about transfer.

Rangers: Clement takes big risk as behind-the-scenes decision madeSteven Thompson, a former star for the Rangers, has pointed out that Philippe Clement has to win a number of important games in December before he can expect to add new players during the winter transfer window.

Rangers’ season-long participation in the Europa League is in jeopardy after a 1-1 draw at home against Aris Limassol on Thursday.

Rangers were again prevented from taking advantage of Celtic’s league point slump last weekend by another draw against Aberdeen.

Thompson emphasised that, given that Clement hasn’t had a chance to add players of his own during a transfer window since taking over at Rangers, he should be given some leeway right now.

While the Belgian has undoubtedly improved Rangers, he believes the manager of the Gers should be concerned about the team’s previous two outings since they bear some similarities to what supporters witnessed under Michael Beale.

The former Rangers striker emphasised that even if the transfer window is not far off, December is still a crucial month for the team because of their cup final and important rivalry versus Celtic.

“You can feel for Philippe Clement to a certain extent,” Thompson stated on BBC Radio Scotland.

“He has not had a transfer window to work with, and these guys are not his players.

“Since he arrived, I believe the situation at Rangers has improved, but the last two games have been a reversion to the past.

Philippe Clement is concerned about that.

“He will surely return to the transfer market in January, so he won’t have to wait too long to do so.

“However, by then, you might have been out of Europe, you have a cup final, and you have an Old Firm match that could be very important in determining the winner.”

“This is a big month for the football team.”

When Rangers play St. Mirren at Ibrox on Sunday, they’ll aim to resume their winning ways.
