The Ottawa Redblacks upgraded their offense, announcing the signing of wide receiver Dominique Rhymes to a two-year contract Monday.

Wide receiver Dominique Rhymes wasted no time resolving his free-agent status, opting to return to where his professional journey commenced. The Redblacks officially announced on Monday morning that Rhymes has inked a two-year deal.

In a statement on Monday, Rhymes expressed his sentiment, stating, “Ottawa was the first place I played pro ball, I started my career here, met my fiancé here. I feel like I’m coming home, because I am. I’m still good friends with a lot of the guys from Ottawa; I’ve seen their kids be born, went to a Grey Cup; it’s just all love. I’m excited to get going.”

Rhymes joined Ottawa in 2017 and participated in 22 games during his initial two years with the team. His standout season occurred in 2019, amassing 65 receptions for 1,056 yards and scoring five touchdowns. Although Rhymes departed the team following that season, he and his family have consistently regarded Ottawa as their home.

Over the past three seasons, Rhymes was a part of the Lions, notably achieving career-best statistics in the 2022 season with 85 receptions, 1,401 receiving yards, and 11 receiving touchdowns. His outstanding performance earned him recognition as a CFL All-Star. However, the Lions released Rhymes last week.

Ottawa has been proactive on the offensive front, engaging in a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week to acquire quarterback Dru Brown. The Redblacks seem committed to a strategy focused on investing in their future while aiming to secure victories in the present.
