The need at the offensive line position is a glaring one for the UNC football program, as they once again attacked the transfer portal in hopes of replenishing the depth among the group up front.
North Carolina has earned a commitment from offensive lineman transfer Zach Greenberg. He becomes the third transfer offensive lineman to commit to the Tar Heels during this cycle.
Greenberg has an interesting story, as he is set to jump up to the Division I ranks. He played his first three collegiate seasons at Muhlenberg College, a private liberal arts college in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Upon his arrival on campus this summer, Greenberg will have two seasons of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.
After entering the transfer portal on November 22, Greenberg earned scholarship offers from various Division I programs, including the likes of Akron, Connecticut, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Troy, UAB, Villanova, and Western Michigan. Although he received a good amount of interest, his visit to Chapel Hill this past weekend sealed the deal for him, as North Carolina emerged as the right place for him to continue his college football career.
Although he played tackle at Muhlenberg, the 6-foot-4, 290-pound transfer is expected to be an offensive guard for the Tar Heels.
Of course, it’s always a risk in regard to recruiting players that played at lower levels. However, the Tar Heels didn’t seem to let that bother them while recruiting Greenberg, as they hope he can be an impact player on their offensive line over the next two seasons.
