Defensive lineman Nigel Romick secured his spot with the Ottawa Redblacks for another year, signing a contract extension that spans until the culmination of the 2024 season. Standing at an imposing height of six feet five inches and weighing 241 pounds, the 32-year-old athlete hailing from Thunder Bay, Ontario, showcased his skills in 16 games during the 2023 season. Throughout this period, Romick contributed significantly with two tackles and an impressive tally of eight special teams tackles.

Having entered the professional arena as the 23rd pick in the third round of the 2014 CFL Draft, Romick has established himself as a key player for the Redblacks. His cumulative stats over seven seasons in Ottawa include 15 tackles, 86 special teams tackles, and one sack, showcasing his versatility and impact on the field. Notably, Romick played a pivotal role in the Redblacks’ triumph over the Calgary Stampeders, leading them to secure the 2016 Grey Cup championship.

Before his professional career, Romick honed his skills during three seasons as a collegiate player at St. Mary’s University from 2011 to 2013. His college career was marked by notable achievements, amassing a total of 62.5 tackles, which comprised 47 stops and 31 assists. Additionally, Romick showcased his prowess with 11 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and one forced fumble in 24 games while representing the Huskies.

As Romick continues to don the Redblacks’ jersey, his contract extension reflects the team’s confidence in his abilities and the significant contributions he brings to the field.
