According to numerous sources, retired NASCAR driver Kurt Busch was detained in North Carolina on suspicion of DWI, careless driving, and reckless driving.

According to court documents Sports Illustrated was able to get, Busch, 46, was reportedly pulled over late on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Iredell County after exceeding the speed limit by over 20 miles per hour.

The outlet claims that when Busch was arrested, his blood alcohol content was 0.17%. The legal limit in North Carolina is listed by the department of public safety at 0.08%.

Busch’s driver’s license has been suspended for 30 days, according to a report from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, and he is expected to appear in court on September 19 to answer to the allegations, according to SI.

The next evening, Busch sent a statement to Bob Pockrass, a NASCAR reporter for Fox Sports. On Wednesday, August 14, he said, “I’m very disappointed in myself and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and my fans.” “I’ll cooperate with law enforcement to address the issue and with the county to create a more secure environment going forward.”

The 2004 NASCAR Cup Series winner had already been accused of reckless driving before his detention on Tuesday. According to an ESPN story from the time, Busch was cited for careless driving and placed under arrest in 2005 in Maricopa County, Arizona, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

As per the site, Busch declined to take part in the routine field sobriety tests when a deputy detected the presence of alcohol on his breath. Busch was reportedly given a citation for careless driving and freed after the equipment malfunctioned during his transportation by authorities to a sheriff’s facility.
