In Monday’s 31-17 playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, linebacker Terrel Bernard of the Buffalo Bills appeared to have perhaps had a major injury after being carted off with a towel over his head.

Following Bernard’s admission for X-rays to assess what the team described as an ankle injury, Bills coach Sean McDermott stated that he was unaware of any changes.

However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport revealed some information shortly after the postgame press conferences that will cause Bills supporters to exhale deeply as they prepare for Sunday’s AFC Divisional matchup against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to Rapoport’s tweet, Bernard is “believed” to be suffering from an ankle sprain and his X-ray results were negative.

According to a source, Bills star linebacker Terrel Bernard, who has become one of their best defenders, has what appears to be an ankle sprain. “MRI tomorrow, X-rays were negative,” Rapoport tweeted.

Given the impact Bernard has had this season and the fact that the Bills need to be as healthy as possible to play Mahomes and the Chiefs, this is major news for Buffalo’s defence. Naturally, it’s still unclear how Bernard will do for next week because ankle sprains can still be severe enough to require missed work.

But Bernard didn’t rip or break anything, so if the Bills make it further in the playoffs, he might at least make a comeback.

A third-round selection out of Baylor in the 2022 draft, Bernard has had an incredible season, recording 143 total tackles, 6.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, five passes defended, and three interceptions in just 17 games.
