Four games, 3 goals: £30k-a-week Wolves target is now proving too hard to ignore for O’Neil – opinion

Gary O'Neil Profile

Gary O’Neil is known to be looking to land a new striker this month in the transfer market – and Che Adams is potentially making himself very difficult for the manager to ignore.

Wanderers have allowed Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva to depart already, with both struggling for minutes at Molineux.

Kalajdzic has returned to Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, while Silva has moved to Rangers.

We’ve seen a few names linked with Wolves this month and one player through to be on the club’s radar is Che Adams.

His name has not really been blowing too many Wolves fans’ socks off – but the star is certainly making a case to be a decent signing this month…

Currently, Southampton are going very and are actually on a 20-game unbeaten run.

It’s a very good moment for Russell Martin’s side, who were 4-0 victors over Sheffield Wednesday., and Adams himself is in good form now.

It’s a very good moment for Russell Martin’s side, who were 4-0 victors over Sheffield Wednesday., and Adams himself is in good form now.

The Scotland international was on target against the Owls yesterday, and that means he has now hit three goals in his last four Championship appearances for the Saints. Adams also bagged against Walsall in the FA Cup last weekend.

The 28-year-old is now up to eight goals for the season for Southampton, which will certainly have some clubs looking in his direction – especially given the situation with his contract.

Adams’ deal at St. Mary’s expires at the end of the season, meaning this window is Southampton’s final chance to sell him before losing him for nothing.

Adams bound to be in O’Neil’s thinking

Adams feels like a player Wolves are going to go for this month.

Obviously, Wanderers made an attempt to sign the £30,000-a-week star in the summer but were blocked by Southampton at the eleventh hour.

This was when Gary O’Neil had already replaced Julen Lopetegui, so presumably he is a player he is quite keen on.

Wolves are still having to be mindful of their spending, so a move for Adams makes a lot of sense given his contract situation.

Ultimately, he’s got experience of playing in the Premier League and he’s someone that pretty much sticks to playing right up top, which is exactly what Wolves need.
