Update on Dejphon Chansiri commitment to key January pledge.

Dejphon Chansiri club statement - News - Sheffield Wednesday

Alan Nixon has provided an update on Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri’s January window pledge.

Sheffield Wednesday were expected to go all out in the January transfer window as they look to boost their chances of staying in the Championship this term.

The Owls have already snapped up both James Beadle and Ike Ugbo, though it was only the former that was named on the bench for yesterday’s defeat to Southampton.

Danny Rohl has explained that Ugbo will be monitored carefully after struggling with a hamstring niggle during his loan spell with Cardiff City, leaving it unclear as to when he will be ready to regularly start for Sheffield Wednesday.

It is not ideal for The Owls, who still need more of a goalscoring threat if they are to climb up the league table.

Fans will be hopeful that the Yorkshire outfit can still add to their attack in the second half of the January window, while they certainly won’t have forgotten about Dejphon Chansiri‘s previous promise of a new striker.

It was reported in December that the Thai millionaire was ready to throw ‘big money’ at a new forward this month and could even pay around £30,000-per-week for the ‘right man’.

Bar loanee Jeff Hendrick, Sheffield Wednesday’s highest earner is currently Barry Bannan, who rakes in around £25k-per-week at Hillsborough – making him their only player to earn over the £20k mark.

There has been silence on Chansiri’s pledge since, but Alan Nixon has now provided an update.

The journalist was asked on X whether Chansiri was still willing to pay £30k-per-week for a striker this month, and Nixon simply replied: “Yes.”

There has been very few murmurs of which striker Sheffield Wednesday could actually land for that kind of money, given how difficult it is to land forwards in January – especially when the entirety of the Championship seem to want one.

Who could Sheffield Wednesday sign this month?

Perhaps the most achievable target for The Owls is Scott Hogan, who has been linked with a move to Yorkshire in recent months.

The striker is said to be the joint-highest earner at Sheffield Wednesday (£20k-per-week), but his performances this season haven’t reflected his hefty wages.

The 31-year-old has managed only one goal in 18 appearances in the Championship this season, but finds himself falling down the pecking order behind Jay Stansfield.

Hogan did score 20 goals across the two seasons prior though, and clearly knows how to find the net in the second tier.

While not the most inspirational signing for Sheffield Wednesday, he would provide a much better option up top than the likes of Mallik Wilks and Ashley Fletcher.

Whether he is worth the wages The Owls would have to pay is another question, but it could be very difficult for Dejphon Chansiri to find someone of higher quality that would be willing to join this month.
